Welcome to our FAQ page.

This page will be updated as required, but if there is a question you have that is not on this page, please contact us, and we will add it to the page.

It’s my very first night, what time should I arrive?

Ideally, you should arrive 20 minutes early on the first night of term to allow our team to help you with any PPE or skates. For then onwards, please arrive 10 minutes before to do warm-ups and gear up, to insure we start on time.

Do YOU DO GEAR HIRE?

Yes we do the first term is free, then after that gear hire is $50 per term. This includes knee, elbow and wrist pads, helmet and skates.

Should I put my skates on as soon as I arrive?

NO: this is because we do off skates warm-ups each session before we start.

Do I NEED A MOUTH GUARD?

Yes you do. Mouth guards are compulsory. We have mouth guards available to purchase when registering, or you can bring your own. If you have braces, you can get mouth guards for braces, click here for example.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

You should be wearing something that is comfortable, yet easy to move in, i.e. leggings work out gear. AS you will be bending and moving around a lot, also, please be aware that you will be wearing knee pads, and they can get sweaty so you may have to try between shorts or pants to see what works for you.

If you are after tops that are skate fit branded to show off or just to have as a uniform, check out our merchandise store HERE.

CAN I BRING MY OWN GEAR?

Yes: you can bring your own gear. Please make sure that you have natural coloured toe stops, adjustable toe stops are preferred but not a must.

You will need to cover your PPE with felt or Teflon to help prevent scratching the floors. Please make sure the whole cap is covered. Felt can be found at spotlight (self sticking) and Teflon tape at most skate stores: like Skate Society.

Toe guards are also needed, these cover the toe of the boot, to protect the boot and the inside floors. These can be found at most skate shops. If you do not have a toe guard, you can use a soft tape like Hockey tape or the felt you used on your PPE, just make sure the entire PPE cap or toe are covered.

ARE PAYMENT PLANS AVAILABLE?

Yes, payment plans are available. If they do not come up as an option during your term registration, please email us at gippslandrangesrollerderby@gmail.com with the heading Treasurer - skate fit payment plan.

WHAT HAPPENS AT COME AND TRY NIGHTS?

For, come and try once you have completed registration, all you have to do is arrive at your chosen venue 15-20 before start time and the trainers will help you with any PPE, skate, helmet, and mouth guard issuing you require. If you have your own gear, you can use this time to ask any questions and have your gear looked at if you wish. The trainer will keep you updated with instructions and what is happening. If there is something you wish to know, but the trainer hasn’t addressed it yet, please ask. Once everyone has gear etc sorted, you will all do some warm-ups before putting on your skates and PPE. Once everyone is geared up (please do this as quick as possible, skates go on last) then your class will start, where the trainer will go over the basics like how to start skating, stopping, falling, skate parts etc.
