Our training encompasses all levels, from people who have never skated before to advanced skaters.

We utilise a 'Star' based system to build skaters up to play Roller Derby.

These star levels are:

  1. Skate Fit: skaters that have no or little previous Roller Skating or Roller Derby experience. They learn basic skating skills including skating, cross-overs, stopping, and falls and recovery. Skate Fit gives you the basic’s to go for and achieve your white star, stay in Skate Fit or star to NSO (non skating official)

  2. White Star: White Star skaters have learnt to increase their speed while performing skating skills, have learnt some low contact and can start attending league training, continue to just attend skate fit, or they can attend both.

  3. Red Star (formerly yellow): Red Star skaters learnt to increase their basic and white star skills and are now competing in low level scrimmage with no contact. Red star also allows you to become a trainer or a referee.

  4. Orange Star: Orange Star learnt to increase their speed while walking on upgrading their skating skills, and have learnt contact skills for amber scrimmage, which is a low contact scrimmage.

  5. Green Star: skaters are at a high intensity level and have an excellent understanding of rules and strategy. They are also cleared for full contact scrimmage.

Our skill’s assessment criteria for each of the star levels are in the Star Testing Assessment Form. Please talk to your trainer if you wish to complete the next star level.
